Gas Engine Division

These engines are specially built for power generation applications at 1500 or 1800 rpm.

Gas engines use a fuel which is generally cheaper than liquid fuels and are therefore often called upon to operate for many thousands of hours in continuous duty applications. For this reason, the Quantum range of engines is based on diesel engine blocks with the inherent strength implied.  Although a gas engine uses a compression ratio more akin to that of a petrol-fuelled engine, the strong construction of a diesel engine, (strong because of the higher compression ratio usually used), will allow the engine to run for long periods before overhaul.

Although a wide range of options can be added, these engines are built to provide a simple, economic, though durable solution to local power requirements anywhere in the world.

They are fitted with modified cylinder head, lower compression pistons, electronic ignition systems and electronic governors for close speed control and fast reaction to load changes

The base engines offered here are to a "radiator-to-flywheel" specification consisting of:-

  • Core engine
  • Flywheel and housing to SAE 3
  • Engine driven fan
  • Gear driven water pump
  • Thermostat
  • 12v starter motor
  • 12v battery charging alternator
  • Tropical radiator
  • Front feet
  • Electronic ignition system
  • Electronic governor
  • Carburettor system
  • Inlet air filter
  • High coolant temperature switch
  • Low oil pressure switch
  • Gas train to UK specification - double solenoid valves, high/low pressure switches, filter and isolating valve. Input pressure 20 mbar.

Dependent on power output offered, engines are naturally aspirated or turbocharged, with the higher powered units also fitted with mixture intercoolers. Alternative gaseous fuels may be used, after consultation. Biogas will require higher gas feed pressure.

The engines are supplied on timber pallets.

A wide range of options can be included:-

  • Silencer - industrial, residential or critical grade
  • Exhaust flexible
  • Anti-vibration mounts
  • Battery wet or dry-charged
  • Battery cables
  • Starter slave relay
  • Gas pressure booster
  • Mounting frame for alternator
  • Sump emptying pump
  • Low engine water level switch
  • Low engine oil level switch
  • Heat recovery from the engine and/or the exhaust

The Quantum engine can be supplied into a complete generating set, built by our associated company, Beaver Power Ltd.
